Summer break is one of the perks of being a teacher. Time away from the kiddoes gives us time to rejuvenate and refuel. This summer I spent a lot of time searching Pinterest and pinning "things" that I am going to make...someday. Well, the "dreaded letter" came in the mail this week. At my house, since we both teach, that is what we call the welcome back letter from our schools. I looked at all of my pins and decided that it was now or never.
I was getting a little bored with the decor in my library. I decided it was time to shake it up a bit. I'm in that library a good part of my life, so I should enjoy it. My first project was the crayon melting on canvas. I have been dying to do this. I spent $14.00 in canvas at Hobby Lobby and about $6 in crayons. All four canvasses only took a few hours. I was really happy with the finished project.
I could not wait to take them to the library and try them out. I liked it, but I didn't love it. There was still too much wall showing. I needed inspiration so I went to my favorite inspiration place, Hobby Lobby. Wow, I found the clearance isle and that was all the inspiration I needed.

For just a few bucks I got a wind chime, the glitter flowers and the snail plus a few other things. I added the red pail with silk flowers, which I already had, and I was a little closer to loving it. I wanted something on the left to balance out the flower bucket. This is where the blue tree comes in. So I went to my second inspiration location, the Walmart hardware isle. I found this fantastic wire that is covered with blue vinyl. It is used for making a clothes line. Who knew? One roll is $4 and could make 2 trees. Sometimes I get a vision that only works in my head, but this one paid off. At least, I think so. The "Crayon Tree" tree will sit to the left of the crayon canvasses. Now, when the kids ask me where I got all those crayons to make my canvassas, and they will ask, I will tell them that I grew them.
One of my favorite things is my Mickey Mouse rocking chair. Each year when the new students come to library classes, they can't wait to sit in the MM chair. This is one of those visions that worked in my head and in actuality. A good friend gave me the rocking chair for my new adventure as librarian. I painted it using oil based paint. It went on like a dream. I wasn't sure the kids would "get it" since it just represents MM using the black, yellow, red and white. No worries. They recognize him instantly. I have had a few interesting comments about the yellow spots. No, they are not for your buns. They are Mickey Mouses buttons!
